Excellent picture! We had lots of these & I wondered if it was the dreaded Gypsy Moth caterpillar, but after I looked it up on the Internet and asked the experts I learned it was a Silver Spotted Tiger Moth caterpillar - very common in the Pacific North-west. They feed on conifers, but aren't a serious threat.

It almost looks edible. Nice contrsat between the pavement and the beast.

Nice picture !!

I had taken some caterpilar close-up but because of small depth of field they aren't very sharp...
