Default Doena Stingus Meus

These are incredible to watch.
They hover over the pool and at the right moment they land on the water for a drink.
and then fly over to a wooden stake and eat the fibers.
Eventually I will get one on the water.
My guess is that this is a paper wasp.

Nice picture but I could swear it's a real wasp - not paper!!

But I think it's Polistes carolina - Red Wasp otherwise called a Red Paper Wasp

or maybe Polistes metricus. Here's a few more http://bugguide.net/node/view/572/bgpage?from=0

Paper or real, it's still a nice shot.
