We get a few of these now and again but never know what they are. I caught him/she/it under a glass and took some pictures. Some came out ok others were rubbish. They can move pretty fast so were either blurry, jumped out of the shot as I pressed the button or had jumped to other side of the glass so they were out of the DOF.

Kind of looks like a type of wasp to me... ? Love the pic of your dog : )

It looks like a wasp to me, too, though I can't find it exactly in my Audubon book--but the book is specifically for North America. Nevertheless, the two closest to it are the "Black-and-yellow Mud Dauber" and the "Polybiine Paper Wasp." See if it'll sting you, then you'll have proof.:-)
