Default Out from the Ether It peered

Ive viewed a lot of snail marcos in flickr lately and been really inspired so having recently aquired a macro lens and comming across a ton of snails wandering around after a wet day i decided to get my learning on.

I took a LOT of shots. Its been years since i done macro and had to relearn a lot. 2 hours of shooting and only 1 shot to show for it re-taught me:

1. Manual focus with macro work, particularly with insects.
2. You need a LOT of light. i played with off camera flash which was good fun and worked well.
3. slow swaying and burst shoot mode promises the most success in getting the part of the insect in the miniscule depth of field in focus.

This is the best from the 2 hour shoot. I like it as its obviously a snail, but the bokeh/dof obscures all but the eye, as if its poking in from another dimension or something like that.

Lots learned, lots to learn! A good evenings shooting!

G'day mate

I agree with your summary conclusion too - it's a great image
I'm going to suggest that it would also be great on your lounge room wall ~ what a conversation maker with dinner guests

Has Lumix mirrorless & superzoom cameras and loves their amazing capabilities
Spends 8-9 months each year travelling Australia
