i thought the curves and lines of the grain in this old log looked a little like a fingerprint... an interesting study in line and texture.

Such a good idea! And an appealing image, I'd say, despite some softness on the left handside of the photo, expanding towards the left bottom. Maybe a composition including the rest of the formation at the bottom could also work.
