Default First pic

Lo all !

Got my brand new cam today, it's a Fuji S304 (3800 zoom), and had a little play with it. I'm new to all things photo and would be grateful of some critique on my first pic (not the most exciting thing to shoot but hey, hehe )

Hey, photodude

Congrats on your camera!

I like the yellow green contrast.

Here are some suggestions:

1. Crop so you have less green, more flower.

2. Make sure you have focus lock before you shoot.

3. Put some honey on that flower ...maybe a bee will stop by!

Alternatively, you could use macro to concentrate just on inside of flower!

I think you got it...

For a first shot great!
Like the others have noted, cropping would help tremendously.

I have photoshop 7 but unfortunately im a newb to that aswell lol, i'll give it a go.

Thanks for the kind comments, hopefully i will have some more interesting photo's over the next few days, assuming it stops raining, damn UK weather lol

*Edit* - Ok, I fired up photoshop (after reading the cropping tutorial lol ) and cropped the image as recommended. It's my first time doing it so i don't know if it looks better or worse, but i like it I also added a tiny little bit more contrast to make the flower appear more 'sunny yellow'. Hey photodude

Your second pic is a lil more vibrant!

You might want to check out Paint Shop Pro 8
at jasc.com.

You can use for free for 30 days.

To crop a photo in PSP8

Click the crop icon (square box).

Drag mouse from upper left to lower right to
crop.

Click Image (on toolbar at top), Click Crop.

Takes about 1/2 second

The pink flower (begonia) is a very good display of macro shooting. Liked it.
Your dad's picture is tack sharp. Great idea to do it in black and white Brings out the facial characteristics very well. Only flaw might be that the wooden sill background is a tad distracting since its right behind his head even tho out of focus as it should be.
