I don't know what kind of insect this is. It was, at first, unnoticed by me while I was shooting this prickly plant called a teasel.

Here is a look at the head of the teasel plant with the bug.

And here is a close-up of the little beastie. It should be noted that I lost the natural color of the insect when I used the smart color correction in PSE. But, I liked the granite looked it gave the bug. So, please forgive the false color.

Here is a more natural look at the bug.

Turns out you were right about the kind of insect it is. It's a true bug, a hemipteran, so named for the partial wing covers of this order. Don't know exactly what kind of a bug it is, though. If you like these critters, a copy of A Field Guide to the Insects by Borror and White would be useful. A pocketable (for a photographer's vest) book, with good keys, and many color illustrations, it's a gem to use.

Splendid shots of the bug, BTW. I've alwaysadmired people who can do that.

Hey thanks for the tip on the book. That sounds like a great book to have in the field. Thank you, also, for the compliments on the pictures.
All the best,
Steve
