First of ALL, I like your composition. It is good. I like the picture # 12 better. The fence it distracting in the second picture. Thanks for sharing your pictures. I am still trying to figure out how to be able to load pictures in this forum :? :?:

Goofas,

As "bagsfan" noted the composition was good in both pictures except for the minor distraction as noted.

Your Depth of Field (DOF) in the picture of the light colored flower is relatively shallow. Thus the back petals are not as in focus as the front petals. Usually but not all the time in macro closeups of flowers the objective is to have as large a depth of field as possible so that the flower really stands out.

One solution is to try and shoot with as large an f-stop as possible (numerically that is, e.g. f8 rather than f2.8) If however, you have a point and shoot camera you have no choice other than to accept what the camera has done.

The yellow flower appears to have more DOF.

Good start.

Thanks for the tips! I am having a blast with my new camera. This whole "photography thing" is really fun.
