Default Making your money grow!

Just playing around with a dime -

The first image was taken with the Canon EOS-10D and Canon's 100mm F2.8 macro at maximum magnification which gives great images which are clean and flat.

The second image was taken of the same coin with the Canon 10D and a 28-105 USM Canon lens reversed at 28mm.

Links are below 800x600 images to full sized for those interested.

Is it just me or are the dimes kinda grainy? I am looking at the full sized picture of the whole dime (top one) and can see some serious JPEG artifacting. Is the picture highly compressed for bandwidth saving?

They are both highly compressed and shot with high ISO because of insufficient natural lighting.
