Peter,

Thanks for the information and advise.

I'm still seeking out advise as to which camera to buy. I have another question concerning the Canons.

I've been comparing reviews and prices of the Canon XT and the Canon XTi. I can get the earlier model (from 2005 I think) new for around 500 dollars.

Do you think there are any major disadvantages with buying an older model (Canon XT for example)?

Thanks again for your help!

I really appreciate getting advise from someone who is taking the kind of pictures that I hope to be able to take someday!

Your close-ups are truly beautiful photographs.

Dear KatieAnne,

I have not experience of any of the Canon dslrs, so I'm afraid I'm not in a good position to say anything here. I would go for a new version as the sensor and digital processor are obviously much better than the old versions which are good only from an economical point of view. Take fror example the Nikon P5100 and C8400 that I'm using for digiscoping, the former is much newer than the latter and the noise level of the former is way lower than the latter.

Thanks Peter!
By the way, invest in a better macro lens starting from the 105mm onward for the beginning, eg the 150mm, the 180mm or the 200mm, if you are interested intaking close-ups. You may also buytheKenko extensiontubes tofurther increase your possibilities in the macro-world. Peter
