These are great, but then, I'm very partial to Dragonflies. Keep shooting and posting!

# 1 ...what a perspective...great angle...excellent closeup... great DOF..like the clarity of veined wings-excellent
# 2...the symmetry of the wings and the colour...like it very much

Wow, Tony. I have never tried a 300mm for dragonflies. these are excellent for any try, let alone your first!
what lens is that?

Thank you. It is the same Sigma 70 - 300 DG APO Zoom I have used for the Bird shots, Moto X and Car shots I have posted here. I rarely take it off the camera now. It has Macro between 200 and 300mm.
It seems to be a good one from what a lot have people have told me as many are apparently a bit soft at the 300 end. Mine is not so I am guarding it with my life.
cheers
Tony

I really like how you've managed to get nice and sharp colours.

And the DOF is spot on on #1. Now I have to tried many close-ups so what I'm asking might not be possible, but is the DOF just a little off on the head part of #2?

Pictures like these inspire me to try some close-ups.

Hi Alasdair. Thank you. Yes you re correct with your observation re #2. I have actually spot focused on the body just behind the head and missed the head. My mistake.
As you say so very hard to get one perfect.
I should have used a different f stop to widen the range a bit more. A mistake I will try not to make again but most likely will in my haste to get the shot. They don't sit still for long.
Regards
Tony
