Default Splish Splash

The macro mode on my Nikon D1X pulled this off. A drop of milk landing in a blue glass bowl.

I tried about a hundred shots. There are so many things to go wrong and each shot was like starting over again. I had an eye dropper in my right hand, the shutter release cable in my left hand and after every 3 shots I had to clean the lens. But I could get shots like these almost every time. The first shot was the best one in my opinion. It was different, and as you can see its just about 3 or 4 drops from the start. The bottom of the bowl is still blue. It didnt take many drops to cover the bottom so it was all white. The way I do this I rather enjoy because its not guaranteed what you will get, and sometimes the surprise image is amazing. I would never use milk again. Its sticky after a while. The sides of the bowl show the spots from splashed milk. Whereas water, even dyed water will run down the side and not be a problem. So just close the lens down to f22, shutter speed of 1/2000 and ASA at a number that will allow a decent exposure with the flash. The camera is about an inch and a half from the drop or less. Thats it. Finally this last shot is an edited version of the first one.
