Yes, those macro lenses seem to be able to produce good out of focus areas. About the exposure compensation. Don't know about others but to me -1/3 EV step has become a default value

On the oof colours. The picture is from a large shared community garden so there are flowers with similar colours around the place

Yup, -1/3 or so sounds good, i do much the same on flowers, the slight underexposure gives such a pleasing color saturation in these closeup images. well done!
