Default Macro seaon,,

hello gang, new here, I like the format of this site and hope to get to know quite a few of you,, I know Im getting excited about the beginning of Macro season here in the States,, I did a slight modification on these two images, more apparent in the second, just for fun, typically I go for absolute realism in my macro works,,

Welcome, it is a good site.
The only word for your photos is WOW. I love bugs.
What 'modification' did you do on the photos?
I am not a PP person...in other words, haven't learned PP so do not use it. No patience.

Cool shots. Would love to see your "absolute realism" images too!

Excellent shots - I really like the crab spider. Are you using any type of flash?

Thank you all for commenting !! much appreciated !! as far as post processing on these I used a Topaz Labs plug in, it works with photoshop, the first image is fairly straight forward with some minor tweaking while the second image I used "Topaz Clean" on the image, which gives the hairs a unique quality,, to say the least Clint, I do use a flash on 98% of my macro work, the first image was with natural lighting while the second image I used my macro rig which consists of a Canon 40D, Sigma 105mm macro lens, Canon 430ex off camera mounted on a Novoflex flash bracket, flash is diffused with a Lumiquest softbox, a fairly straight forward method of illumination that I picked up from forums a few years ago and I find it works pretty well,, you will be seeing alot more macro work from me in the future Thanks again everyone !!

Where do you find your critters and how do you get them to be still? I noted you do a lot of shooting in Florida and figure that maybe part of the reason for so many bugs.

I have been reading about "ring flashes" and currently I'm considering the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 Digital Ring Macro Flash. There have been many times I've needed a little light in the right place when bug shooting. I have a Sony A55 and also the Sigma 105 macro.

Thanks for commenting Lisa and Clint,,
Lisa I typically will find insects and such out in the woods mostly at state parks that I go to here in Central Florida
Clint I have also been interested in a ring flash, havent gotten one yet but havent counted them out either, having a flash sure make life easier though, I dont meter when I shoot macro, I have my settings and I'll adjust on the fly certain aspects to allow or eliminate ambient light, flash allows me to do that, without it I'd be really limited,,
gotta LOVE the Sigma 105mm though eh !!! Optically its a great lens at a great price and I like the working distance it allows without being to heavy or long
