Default Giant Cicada Killer

Clint501 inspired me with his digger wasp. So I went out and stalked these pretty wasps that have been patroling my yard for the last few weeks. I grew up thinking they were hornets till i saw this sign at the zoo a few years ago. I really thought it was interesting how they backed up pushing the dirt with their back legs and used the front ones curled to support itself in the sand as it pushes backward. She also couldn't really fly with the cicada so she ended up holding it with her middle legs and using the front and back to crawl through the grass to her hole.

Excellent shots, great series of how the cicada killer prepares her nest.
