Default The Worm Turned

The Dead Wood Borer Moth larva - lives in the darkness behind the bark. I guess dead wood is easy to chew than live wood.

Nice shots Clint! You have been posting some great stuff.

So if he lives in the darkness behind the bark how did you find him? You have some kind of electronic bug finder?

There is a large dead oak tree in my backyard so I thought I'd dig around in the decaying bark and I found this little guy.

Great shots. I don't know why but they creep me out worse than spiders. And then on the survival shows they eat them, that's even worse.
In the first shot in the reflection you can see it's eyes.
Well done.

Thanks Loren - as I was "pixel peeping" I noticed a couple of things. I think the 4 small "dots" are the eyes and I think it has mites on it's "feet".

That's an insane closeup, sure does look like mites on his legs. I didn't notice the dots for eyes, I thought his eyes were something else.

I did too at first - I think the brown part is just his head.

It was actually a piece of black acrylic plastic and a red camellia reflected for the background.
