Here's a type of spider that's commonly called a "grandaddy longlegs" here in the midwest, although I don't know if it's called that in other parts of the country or not. It was hiding in a small hole in a fence postI walked past this afternoon. I got a bonus second bug of some sort in there, too....heh.:-)



Taken with my S5000, in black and white mode, again with the Cokin orange filter to make the contrast a little stronger.

Interesting photo. If the fence post is tilting I think I would have cheated and straightened it in my picture, and I'm pretty sure that second bug is called 'dinner'.

hmm...."grand"daddy longlegs? i've heard daddy longlegs...but not granddaddy...is it supposed to be a different species? well...the "real" name is harvestman i think....

nice shot i love the b/w

Lol, actually, the cracks in the post didn't run straight, so I decided to just leave it as is, although it does look like there's an angle to it. I think you're probably right about the bonus bug being dinner, hehe!

Vito, I'd assume it's probably the same species. I have no idea what the proper name is. :?
