I had a think about this right after posting and did a search. You're right djb.

How did I get that wrong?

ferny, they look like hornets and yellowjackets. just look at the mouth parts. if there are mandibles (cutting style jaws) then it's a hornet, wasp, etc.. if the mouth parts are as in your pic then it's typically a fly. it's still a very nice pic!!!

Cool close up, you should try making an adapter to use the lens reversed directly to the camera, it works awesome, the DOF is a lot larger, but use a manual lens so you can set the aperture, a 50mm would work very good, I use one for my macro shots, I started recently, but its coming better. If you want a sample, check the post called "hover fly" by Burger_BMX. Hope that helps you.

Greetings!

Neat looking picture. Like the perspective and the colors are really clear in the last shot. Cool lucking bug.

Thanks zoomn and burger.

Burger, I can't do it without the prime lens, my camera is little more than a point and shoot. I'd have to rip the lens off of the front of the camera.
