Interesting shot. I think it's what we call a "cattail" in the US. They grow on shorelines here.

In the Pacific Northwest, they grow in and around wetlands. They look like corndogs until they break open and the fuzz comes out.

It looks like a Bull Rush. They grow in boggy conditions here to.
I know Australia has one that is meant to be really good if you get lost. You can use the "fluff" as kindling and eats its root which contains loads of starch. you can eat the stem to I think. Don't go trying that though. If you eat it and die, don't come complaining to me. :lol:

sounds like the same plant as mentioned by you guys, this was taken at our local wetlands reserve. I go there to get bird shots:-)
