I spotted this guy while cleaning up the garden for winter. Does anyone know who he is?

Thanx,

Ron

Ron,

I have never seen an insect like that. It looks like it is between a beatle and a spider. If you don't get an answer send to Michigan State Entomology department. I am also interested.

Hey great shot.

According to my Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insets and Spiders...geesh that's a long title... You have found a lovely little "Marbled Orb Weaver" bobc also posted a couple of pics of the same kind of spider in the Panasonic forum. There is even a recipe for marbeled orb weaver chowder.....try at your own risk.:?:

And I thought we found a new species. Cute little spider, isn't it. I think I will pass on the soup. I don't like the looks of it.

Yes it's a "Marbled Orb Weaver". I posted this photo on a garden site and they came up with the same conclusion. Thanx to all.

Nadia,
Not possible - he died about a month ago after bringing joy to my life for 16.5 years.
