There's a wonderfull meadow near where I live that erupts in wild orchids every June, so now that summer is nearly over here, I thought I'd post a selection taken earlier this year.

This first one is a heath spotted orchid:

Next up comes a really wierd looking thing, the lesser butterfly orchid.

I've been trying to get a really good picture of one of these for a couple of years, but inspite of plenty of subjects to choose from I'm not sure that I've succeeded yet: basically their just too weird looking :?

And finally, one I'm not 100% sure of the ID on, but I think it's a "baby" southern marsh orchid (could be a pyrimidal orchid though):

Hope you like them,

John.

they are all beautiful. the 1st one really stands out for me, the colors and texture really pop and it's nicely composed. i can see the challenge with the second image, i think you handled it pretty well...it is an interesting subject.

Hi John,

#3 seems to be a dactylorhiza (eg. southern marsh orchid).
The pyrimidal orchids that I know look quite different:

I have been in Cornwall and Devon, the only orchids I found were in a garden on the scilly islands....
I missed the other orchids and the lost garden of H. ... time for a second journey!

Thanks for link Sven: I think you're right about the ID, hope you had a good time in Scilly, it's a magical place, but the weather can be a little... interesting ... at times
