Matthew,

I like the idea and the angle on the lizzard. And I guess it was not waiting for you to shoot, thus!

On the composition side, I would try to put it a bit to the side. But this is more of a feel than anything.

The disturbing element is the shadow on the lizzard's face... could be a case for a bit of flash to have more details there!!

Flash would have flared bad this was taken at the central park zoo in ny, ny throught glass, using lighting in the zoo exibit

Yeah, bad lighting. Direct overhead. And even if you use a white card to try to fill in the side of the face (which would have greatly improved the shot) it would have caused a reflection.

You could have put a flash right up against the glass. That might have worked, but likely would have gotten you tossed out of the building; they don't like people tapping on the glass, much less shooting flashguns at the inmates.
