I'll post my close-up photo's in this thread, and will try and have some Exif info with each. I'm extremely new to this photography malarky and any comments from the seasoned pro's and very knowledgable non-pro's is very much welcome.

First photo is a blue/purple flower (should find out what is's called if i'm photographing it really) taken on a walk around our local Bird sanctuary, yep i know flowers at a bird sanctuary :?

Exif Info:
Device maker: Minolta Co., Ltd.
Device model: DiMAGE A1
Software: Ver.1.12e
ISO level: 100
Sharpness: Normal
Exposure time: 1/200 sec
White balance: Daylight

Focus was on manual, which may explain the slighly out of focus petals, heh, but i'm learning :-)

Have cropped and sharpened it a bit, i'm quite pleased with the results, any comments.

regards
Gary

and 2nd photo is a purple flower (again should get name of them) from the same visit as above.

Very little color around and this was just sat in the middle of a sea of green leaves and foliage.

Exif Info:
Device maker: Minolta Co., Ltd.
Device model: DiMAGE A1
Software: Ver.1.12e
ISO level: 100
Sharpness: Normal
Exposure time: 1/80 sec
White balance: Default

comments etc much welcome. Will try and get some insect shots at some point, very little of them around at moment, even our house spiders have left for warmer climates.

regards
Gary

Hi Gary,
this is a promising start!
#1 The blue hand has a very nice composition!
My eyes are used to seeing the closed part of a compact object sharp. There are only few exceptions to this rule. Ok it is very difficult to keep the focus, so I stopped the autofocus in the beginning and changed the distance to the object. First shots were done with continuos shooting - one of the pictures had to be sharp!
#2 Such a closeup without a special lens

thanks for the comments folks.

I'd actually left my CUL lenses in the car as I hadn't expected to need them seeing as it was a bird sanctuary :-).

The first one was a bit rushed IIRC, which may also explain the lack of focus. I'm going to go back at some point with CULs and see what else I can snap.

cheers
Gary
