... while shooting in tele, which is the best setting for your camera? Should it be macro mode or can you use landscape? Does it matter that much. I know objective is to get the sharpest shot, so what do you suggest? thanks

Nikon coolpix 8800.

It depends on how close your subject is. Macro is for close-ups, so it's only useful from a few inches to a few feet away, depending on the focal length. Landscape mode is basically for shooting scenery or buildings in daylight.

You might consider using the sports mode. It will try to use the fastest possible shutter speed, which would improve sharpness (assuming you don't need great depth of field)
