I've always associated the thistle with desolation, both of which may reveal some kind of magical beauty ,a bitter one though, from time to time..

Could you do me the kindness of indicating which composition makes more sense to you?
Critiques and edits are most welcome as ever..

I am more partial to the second one. Showing more of the plant makes it seems more complete, and less cut off. I love the thistle when it blooms, the royal purple is stunning.

Thank you for your insightful thoughts and appreciation, KennethD.
I was quite uncertain about whether exposing the plant with its surrounding, or being more straightforward by displaying more of the plant. Meanwhile I am aware that the images shown here are expected to meet the criteria of close up. And the first photo is near violating these expectancies maybe... Ah, about the royal purple, I feel it is that colour which adds the quality of 'magical' to the beauty of the flower.

Hi Bahadir, Looking at the 2 i like the 2nd one best, like the tighter crop and the flower higher in the frame, it just feeels more impact to me, a great subject to photograph, like it.. condiment

Thank you for your helpful comment and for your appreciation, condiment. Now I am more encouraged to shoot some further thistle photos with different compositions.
Be warned!!:G
