in addition to pulling in some pretty decent shots of subjects across the lagoon, this Sigma EX 80-400 lens does a pretty good job with close-up shots as well! all these were taken at 400mm, at distances of 6-8 feet (6 feetis about the minimum this lens will focus at), handheld. shutter speeds and apertures varied, but most were in the range of 1/1000-1/1250, at f7.1-f11. who says a big zoom can't produce sharp, detailed close-ups? if this lens wasn't so heavy, it would never come off my camera!

I can see why you are so happy with it. Those are nice shots. Well done.

Avery versatile lens. After all it is a kinda close-up lens. Too bad it so darn heavy. Hope I can get one some day that does as well

The flowers look great but the greenery of 2 and 4 is a bit grainy for whatever reason.

That first blue flower is very nice. Hand held at 6', wow.

These are not exactly what you would expect from a long lens. But they are great images.

I did this with a 70-300 lens recently:

Not as spectacular as yours, but still not bad for a long telephoto.
