saw this rose at a little city park this evening just about sundown. it was on the wrong side of the plant, in the shade of a tree, so i pretty much had to use the flash. to avoid blowing the whole thing out from 14" away, i covered the flash with my shirt to diffuse it... i thought it worked out pretty well!

I like the picture! It almost look surreal ( as if it was taken under water). I really like the angle you took the shot from also.

So... are you saying that I only need a shirt instead of paying thousands of dollars in brand new equipment to avoid the reflection of the flash?.

Amazing!!!!

:lol:Good job!!

hey... whatever works! :G i usually carry a small piece of thick paper towel in my camera bag to use as a diffuser for the onboard flash on my 30D; i just wrap it over the flash and hold in place with a rubber band, or even my fingers. it works quite well, especially for close-ups like this, and eliminates or greatly reduces thereflections or blown highlights from the flash. i just didn't happen to have my bag with me that day, so i used a corner of my shirt! :-)
