Yeah, like the title says - cat-faced spider. It's called so because of its markings on its back. If you look at it from the top/behind, you can actually see a cats-face.

The scientific name is araneus gemma.

Hey, wow. I have two of these hanging out in corners of the ceiling of my wooden back porch. The only difference is they are yellow instead of brownish. I live in Colorado and they have been on my porch for about 20 years now. Glad to find out they are harmless. My name obviously states I have been bitten twice by either a brown recluse or a hobo spider. These spiders are still scary looking. Just glad to know I have to worry about one less species I have found around here. Thanks!
