My wife has started a business specializing in custom wedding stationery. Until now we have been using a cannon i9900 to do our printing but we would like to purchase a color laser printer. Problem is that we used many different types of paper along with heavy paper weights. The inside of our programs are mostly printed on 67 lb cover stock, but the printer must also be able to print on vellum, metalic paper, and stock up to 140 lb. Any help recommmending a printer to us is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

There are two considerations. The first consideration is the resolution, printing language and paper type of color laser printer. Basically, you may find 1,200 dpi printer's engine or the resolution of output quality is over than 2,400 dpi (3,600dpi and 4,800 dpi). The PostScript printing language is also necessary to enhance gray level. Slow down printing speed is needed by change default setting from "common paper" to "thick paper" or "106 ~ 163 gsm" and it is possible to print 67 lb without jam. You may follow these specifications to find suitable laser printer corresponding to your budget.

The second consideration is paper thickness and this is major problem. Typically, the designing of laser printer is based on common photocopy paper (70 ~ 80gsm).Toner transferring from OPC drum to paper is through electrostatic field. Increasing paper thickness will decrease electrostatic field and toner can not be transferred sufficiently. The consequence is printing color will become very white. The solution is the electrical conductivity of paper surface must be improved that means the paper surface must have positive polarity! I think it is very difficulty to find 140 lb at this moment with positive polarity.
