Default Default Theme not retained on login

Hi JimC et Al.,

Firefox 3.0.10
NoScript 1.9.2.6 - steves-digicams.com on my "Whitelist."

1. In the User CP I've changed my default theme to "Light Theme." However, when I log out, restart my browser and log back in, the theme defaults back to the "Dark Theme." Not a big deal, but it presumably indicates that this setting is not retained.

I have Firefox set up to delete cookies when closing, but I changed this just in case this functionality relied on a cookie. Same result.

2. FYI when Firefox is not set to delete cookies: When I log out I get a forum message that cookies have been cleared. This appears not to be the case as I still had a couple of forum cookies after restarting Firefox.

I also changed the default time and that is working correctly when I log back in.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike:

It seems to be working for me (retaining the theme after logging out and in if I change and save my Skin choice).

Are you sure you're selecting "Light Theme" from the "Forum Skin" section at the bottom of this edit options page and pressing the "Save" button?

Also, if you look at the very bottom left of the page, you can see a "Quick Style Chooser". It's simply a drop-down box that allows you to change the theme from Dark to Light.

Thanks, Jim!

End-User error! Sorry to trouble you.

I thought I had done that intitally, but apparently not. Then I saw the option to change this parameter in "Your Profile" and I kept using that. Obviously this change was only valid for the current session.

Thanks again!

Mike

Right. If you want to change it and have those changes retained, you need to change the "Forum Skin" choice at the bottom of the "Edit Options" page under the CP button, then press the "Save" button.

Got it, Jim!

Thanks also to you, Billy. That's pretty handy. I don't post much and I'd just as soon not log in just to change the theme.

You're welcome. This new software is pretty robust, with all kinds of "cool" features.

Any time you're having problems with a site not "remembering" things like settings or preferences, of if you keep being logged out right away, it's almost always a cookie problem. Dump your cookies for that site and try again. 95% of the time it works 100% of the time.

Wow! My query seems to have generated a plethora of helpful responses!

Thanks to you, too, Dick. A good reminder for those who keep cookies.
