Default Camera weight.

Greetings,

Looking at the specifications of cameras as provided by a variety of photo sites, I've noticed that most (including Steve's) give the weight of the camera without battery or media installed.

I find this information rather academic, as a camera is always used (and usually carried) with its battery and media installed.

So I was wondering why Steve's chooses to give the weight of the camera when empty rather than with the battery and media installed (the empty weight could also be provided).

Just curious...

Thanks.

Kilucru.

Kilucru,

The reason you see many sites post the "dry weight" of a camera in the specifications table is because that is the information that is provided from the manufactures. All of the "Specs" data is provided from them. We don't actually measure or weigh the camera to get those figures.

Some manufactures do list the weight including the battery and memory card, but that is not the norm.

On our site, we always make a note at the bottom of the specs table stating: Specifications as represented by the manufacture.

I hope this answers your question.

Dear Steve's,

I supposed they do it so that the specs look better.

Thanks for the info.
