Default Scam sites in Google Ads

I wonder if one of the prominent Google Ads on the site homepage
is yet another scam site? It sets off all my alarm bells.

Prices far too low to be genuine.

Claims to be an established UK seller, but was only
registered last month.
BEST-TECHNOLOGIES4YOU.COM

Claims to be a UK site, but the server and registrant
are in Lithuania.

If a price looks too good to be true, it probably is. ;-)

Always check a vendor's reputation first.

Most of the Google Doubleclick related ad feeds use page content to decide what ads to display, and if someone is willing to pay for the ads, then Google will usually use them.

Be careful what you click on as far as adverts on sites go, as not only may the seller end up being less reputable than desired, but another tactic being used now is Ad Poisoning to distribute malware. Here is one article on the subject:

Here's the blog post they referenced with more info:

Personally, I keep multiple layers of defenses installed when running in Windows. For example, Avira Antivir, Finjin Internet Security in Firefox (so that links in searches are flagged when malware is detected), the NoScript Extension in Firefox (so that scripts are blocked from running unless I OK the page), Threatfire (to supplement other products with hueristic analysis), and more. I also use the free Secure DNS servers from Comodo so that sites known to have malicious code on them are blocked. But, none of them are perfect.

There are many services you can use to do a whois lookup.

google for "whois" and you'll find a lot of them.

Here's one:

whois and traceroute.

Good advice from Jim on price and reputation. I have seen a
good few of these sites recently. Most of them claim to be
established UK camera sellers. When you check with whois,
you will often find the site was created in the last few weeks.
Traceroute usually brings you to the Baltic area. Lithuania,
Latvia and Kaliningrad.

Some of these sites look quite convincing. They usually give
a UK address and telephone number on the About us: page.
They claim to accept all major credit cards. I'm sure they will
be happy to have your CC number and 3 digit security code
if you are willing to give it to them. What they really want is
for the unsuspecting buyer to pay by bank wire transfer.

They very nearly got this guy today:
