Default What camera can I use with this Nikon Scope?

Hey all,

How about a suggestion or two on what kind of camera I need to get to attach to this Nikon 60mm ED spotting scope? I just got a Minolta Dimage7i, but am thinking of returning it since I dont see the likelihood of its big lens attaching to the little scope. Or is there a way?

The best candidates are the Nikon CP series - CP950, CP990, CP995, CP4500. Other Nikon cameras with small lenses such as the CP5000 will also work quite well.

The 28mm thread size is the best bet overall. Some other cameras have been used - but the best way to find out is simply to hold your camera up close to the lens, zoom you camera all the way to full telephoto, focus the telescope and try some shots. If it works without vignetting (dark shadows in the corners) then try zooming back a bit and repeat the cycle until black shadows appear. If the range of zoom is reasonable and the images are acceptable, they you need to investigate adapters to hold the camera in close proximity to the eyepiece on your telescope.

Though there are a few non Nikons which have been successful for digiscoping, there is far more support and peripherals for the 28mm filter thread size Nikon CP's than for any other camera. Also, most who have been successful with digiscoping use these cameras.

Best regards,
