I have Canon's EOS Viewer Utility and Digital Photo Professional for converting Raw files. However, the few files I have manipulated don't look much different from jpgs. Does anyone have any tips for making adjustments? Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

Unless you like to print big you won't likely see much difference. RAW is supposed to give you a bit more exposure lattitude and a bit lower noise -- and, of course, no JPEG artifacts(unless you save to JPEG).

If you google, "raw vs. jpeg," you get a wide range of opinions from "RAW is useless" to "RAW is manna from heaven." Most of the sites that tried to do controlled comparisons found slightly greater detail in the RAW shots and lower noise. But they had to view the images at 100% and up to really see the difference.

There are a lot of pros and cons to shooting RAW, and I think that almost everyone interested in digital photography should read numerous articles on the subject so that they can make an informed decision about whether RAW is something that they want to add to their pix-capturing arsenal.

JMO, I don't see much difference either in quality. In extreme lighting situations, the ability to correct exposure slightly is novel. But itcan't fix blown highlights, and underexposed situations I bracket in camera anyway. It hasn't saved pictures.

I style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"do like shooting in RAW in mixed lighting situations involving skin tones(ambient window light plustungsten plus speedlite)because of the control over WB.

style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #000000"Otherwise it is a very annoying, time consuming, cumbersome process that I'd rather skip over if I can help it. I have enough workflow frustration with sizing, cropping, editing, retouching, saving for print, saving for web, list goes on...
