Default Alien Skin

I was on a flight and bought a photo magazine and came across software called Alien Skin.

It seems to be a plug-in (?) for Photoshop. The purpose of the software seems to be blurring the background of a photo where too much of the background is in focus and therefore the subject of the photo doesn't pop.

Does anyone have any experience with software.

Now, I know some purists will tell me to learn to use equipment better and get closer to the subject, etc.... I know all that.

I'd just like to hear from someone who has used the software. How hard is it to use? The on-line price is $199. That seems rather high. Is it a plugin or is it stand alone? Stuff like that...

It is a plug in and the required software can be found here http://www.alienskin.com/bokeh/requirements.aspx

I think a lot of PS plug-ins cost too much, and for me this is one of them, although I do like some of the effects, but I couldn't justify the price, possibly at 25% the cost I would go for it.
