Default how do you create the shadow effect around photos

I have always been intriqued on seeing photos that appear to be free floating due to a shadow on two sides of the photo. How do you do this i photoshop,

One ways is this:

1. Open your photo
2. Duplicate layer
3. Paint the Background black on the edges with the paint tool.
4. Magnify with Canvas Size i.e 3cm in both directions - i.e white.
5. Move the bacground layer i.e to the right and down as far as you prefer.
6. Use Caussian Blur as much as you like
7. Your done.

Just remember to marque the layer you work with as active.

Feel free to ask if you have problems! Good luck.

PS: you can make a lot of effects, but this will be an larger explanation.
