Can anyone help with anything I have missed out of the following tests I have performed on my new purchased second hand speedlight as it is the first one I ahve purchased and I am wondering if I have set it up wrong as I can't get it to fire as an integral part of the camera

  • Checked and cleaned all contact points[/*]
  • switched the flash off on the base to prevent the built in one popping up[/*]
  • Set the ISO correctly and switched to TTL[/*]
  • Put new batteries in both the camera and flash[/*]
  • Checked that test flash button fires the flash[/*]
  • Ensured a tight connection
If anyone can provide any pointers it would be appreciated.

1) Can you see a flash ready indicator on the camera (if it has one) ?

2) To be sure the flash is ok, short the ground tab (the metalic tab on the rails side) to the center pin, the flash should fire atfull power.

3) To be sure the camera hotshoe is working, connect a multimeterset on ohm-meter to the hotshoe rails, and the center connection; you should see a brief contact indicating the camera is firing the flash. An analog meter make easier to detect the contact as it is brief.
