Hi All,

I've just bought a Canon Speedlite 580EX and just wonder if I can use it as a slave with the 20D built-in flash. :?

Please advise.

Thanks and regards,

No - not in a Canon! ;)

You'll need another Master or an ST-E2... IMO you can get the Sigma EF-500 DG Super and use it as a Master instead (for the same price as an ST-E2), and turn it output off as required to turn it into an ST-E2 - Kind of expensive otherwise... for a controller only

I don't know why Canon do not enable this feature, both Nikon and Minolta let you control the external flash from the camera's built-in flash! :(

Thanks a lot for your advice. I can guess why Canon don't want to do so! :-)They want us to buy another slave flash at least. I think I would be nice if this feature could be possible as I could then use my 580EX as a slave and put it in a direction to reflect the lightingdirection I like.

The fun thing about the 500 DG super (which I have) is that you can turn it into a wireless slave to fire off of a built in camera flash!
I don't think that anyone who has one would tell you they don't like it.
