Hi gang,

I have a question about fill flash. I am becoming really frustrated with the lack of it from my set up. Usually the pics are of people and outdoors. The scene background is exposed wonderfully, but the faces have a tinge of shade. I want to open it up even more. I find myself with the flash +2/3 of to get the effect, and even that sometimes that isn't enough.

Any ideas on how to get 'er done. I am using the 40D and the 17-85IS lense. Usually in P mode.

Thanks for your time,

I'd try two things:
1. If you stay on P-mode , use FEL (Flash Exposure Lock) on the faces, the camera would then just meter on the faces with the flash
2. However P-mode is not the best mode for flash, but M (manual) is - As long as you keep the EV indicator to left side (i.e. underexpose) with the aperture/shutter the flash will then balance the rest with a fill automatically!
