These are available in the $120 range; I see several complaints on the Nikon model, nothing on the Canon ... for moderate (GN=125 or so) light TTL automatic at a low price, does anyone know anything about these?

Heres one:
speaks well of the company!

I just posted on this in this forum, then found the above with google.
BTW Sakar bought Vivitar, and it seems has trashed what's left of them.

I have one for my Pentax *istD, and it works pretty well, as a TTL flash in most situations. Tends to overexpose a bit in close shots, but I have read the same thing about Pentax flashes, so it may be the way the camera senses. It does work p-ttl if the head is at zero degrees forward, but is ttl only in other positions. Wireless slave mode does not work with p-ttl.

I would not recommend one of these unless your camera supports ttl flash (not p-ttl). (see edit)

Edit: OOPS! I got it backwards. When mounted on the camera, P-ttl is enabled, even when tilted or turned. It does ignore lens focal length unless straight forward, and the zoom defaults to 50mm, but can be manually selected. This assumes your lens communicates focal length and aperture to the camera. On a manual lens, the flash defaults to ttl mode, and if your camera doesn't support this, you need to set the flash manually.

Apologies for errors.
