Default Can the Sigma EF-500 DG super act as a master for a 420EX

I'd like to get another flash unit (have a 420EX) now but would like one with manual controls and the ability to adjust flash exposure compensation on the flash.

I'm looking at either the 550EX (pricey) or the Sigma 500 super.

I would like the ability to wirelessly trigger my 420 too. Hence the conumdrum...

I've looked at the Sigma site and its clear that their flash will act as a slave but I can't confirm it as a master. Anyone have a definite answer?

Instead of buying the ST-E2, getting the Sigma flash 500 DG Super is cheaper and you'll get both (an IR controller and a flash)!
...The model for Canon utilizes an EF-500 DG SUPER mounted on the camera for signaling, and triggers and controls single or multiple EF-500 DG SUPER units, located away from the camera.
