Canon 550EX Rebate
Hello Everyone,

Canon announced a $25.00 rebate on their 550EX flash. Good price at B&H photo 304.00USD. Does this mean that Canon may be coming out with a replacement since they announced a rebate on the flash?

No, they often have rebates on equipment. There are rebates available for many lenses at the moment, as well.

Thanks Ohenry,

Makes me feel better about purchasing the 550EX!

Canon regularly anounced rebates on equipment. I would not expect the 550EX to be replaced.

It uses the same innards as the equivalent Nikon flash, so if they were to offer a newer model I would be surprised. ettl-II doesn't require a new flash, only a modern camera body that supports it and a newer lens that reports the proper info (I believe.) So there is no metering reason that I know of to release a new model.

Some of these rebates seem to be aimed at reducing the price differential between the gray market and the US market models. There was a rebate program through to the end of March I recall from Canon USA.
