If external flash requires sync speed of 1/180 sec or less, does that mean faster or slower shutter speed than 1/180sec... don't know why owners manual uses the term "less"... it would be clearer if faster or slower were used... I know this sounds stupid, but it has me confused....

Normally, the flash sync speed is a requirement of the camera, not a requirement or characteristic of an external (normal) flash.

It means that you can not use fasterspeed with flash on that camera. (exception are dedicated high speed flash of certain camera ) .

So you can use slower speed than "sync speed": 1/125, 1/60 are ok.
