Thanks for the help.
looking at my photos it seems I have a lot of the issues you have mentioned.
Such as bright reflective back ground ie white painted door in one.
I always leave auto ISO turned on hence the fill in effect.
I invariably use shutter priority and looking at them some have taken the iso up to 3200 which is my max setting.
Also I nearly always have a diffuser on the flash. So apart from high ceilings I guess I have done everything wrong in the book lol.
I think I will invest in the SB700 anyway mainly for the extra reach and adjustability of the head.
So armed with all the info you guys have given me, I am sure my flash photos will be greatly improved.
