I use a Sunpaxk Super Auto flash with my 9100 camera the 383 I think and it works just fine. Just make sure you have extra batteries for it.

For reference, the camera should be able to handle trigger voltages up to 400 volts. That means my old Canon Speedlite 244T with a trigger voltage of 4.4V should be safe....at the very least, it works for now.
