I tried to use this combination and the pictures were over exposed. I then went to a few internet sites and read that damage could be caused to either or both the camera and flash. I then found out the voltages were similar. Can I use this combination and if not what would be the best flash for a G5? I would prefer that the flash would work automatically and not manually. Thank you.

Definitely NR = not recommended.Canon and Nikonusedifferent sets of TTL electrical signalcontacts on the flash shoe and you could fry something!

See the Canon Flash page, you can use any EX series flash on the G5

Thanks for your fast reply. Do the aftermarket flash units work as well as the ones made by the same manufacturer as the camera? If they do I probably should have bought one for my Nikon 35mm camera in the first place and could have it used it for my G5. Thanks again, Pete.
