Hello all,

Can I use a Minolta Program 3500xi flash on a Minolta A2? I know it will probably be on manual mode but I already have the flash. Bought it 10 years ago with my Dynax 7xi which is still a great film camera.

Thanks to all.

The A2 (and A1, A200)has a proprietary hot shoe and requires the expensive Minolta flash(s) to use TTL exposure. Fortunately it has a PC Sync connect so you can add an outboard flash in manual or auto mode. It will require a bracket that attaches to the bottom of your camera. I bought a Sunpak 511 for $45 delivered that is professional grade and works great in manual mode. I found that it wasn't all that difficult to get good exposure once you have a little practice.

If you flash has a "PC Sync" connection you can mount the flash to a $10 bracket.

sigma makes models that work very well on the A2 right on the propriatary hot shoe mount.

and yes they are considerably less then the minolta units and have pretty much all the features
