I need an external flash, as you probably know this camera doesn't havea hot shoe, how do external flashes work for a camera such as this? What should I be looking for?

I take pictures of everything, mostly scenery, sometimes events. I'll be upgrading the camera in about six months so I should be able to use this one with the next camera.

I'm probably being vague, ask whatever you need ;)

What you need is a slave flash that's compatible with "preflash"...a slave is a flash that fires when it sees the internal flash of your camera (or any other camera) fire.

There are several cheap ones on the market, but you have to make sure you get one that is "preflash" compatible.

Personally I use a $150 Metz 34-CS2's nice and compact with plenty of power (guide number 34m), but it runs on expensive nonrechargeable CR2 batteries (personally I buy them in bulk since they have almost a 10 year shelf life). Some shots:

Hi worldcoast, I just got a 300 to replace my 410 which was stolen in Italy a2 weeks ago. I noticed I could use an external flash. I am interested in which one you get for your camera. :?

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to buy a new camera. I've been playing with other camera's and now I'm not so happy with this one, especially after the door snapped off.
