Hi,

Really need a help concerning the 2 external flash that I have.

First I have bought Metz 54 MZ zi with proper adapter for Canon EOS350D and I have second one which is Canon 430EX.

The problem is that I can not start 430EX mounted off camera with Metz mounted on camera....

Is there something that I do not know....

I have information from the seller that is possible to do this combination but after some hour of trying I did not manage to start it.

Would appriciate your help very much...

Zak

Are you trying to sync the 430EX to the 54MZ wirelessly?
-> the two are not compatible!!! (The Metz is proprietary RF based)
You can use the 54MZ in its automatic mode (i.e. non E-TTL) where it would fire only once and use an optical slave to trigger your 430EX

If you were to get the Sigma EF-500DG Super instead then its wireless IR is compatible with the Canon when the Sigma is in the Master mode and will control the 430EX properly...
BTW an optical slave is also built-in to the Sigma

Yes - Unlike the 420EX, one can have manual control over the 430EX by varying its ratio and in this mode it won't preflash either so you can use it to trigger the Metz...

-> However you'll be stuck with two heads on full manual (... not the most efficient way for the $ spent) this way

Hi Guys,

Can you enlighten me on this:

I have a canon 430ex and I would like to do an off cam setup, I don't have a 580ex, but am planning to but a Morris IR trigger and I am planning to put a peanut IR receiver on the 430ex. would this work? anyone tried this simple setup?

Please advice,

H

Yes it wild work, but only in manual (and not E-TTL). That means you'll have to set the flash maually with the ratio number... If you're familiar with this from the emulsion day then that'll be fine.

How far? Will a remote cord work? If you want remote automatic E-TTL with the 430EX then either get the ST-E2 remote controller or a 580/550EX or a Sigma EF-500DG Super (which cost the same as the ST-E2 and probably cheapest)
