Will the Sunpak auto 383 Super flash work on the Canon 20D. What is the benifits of use the 580EX instead. I own the Sunpak and if I can use it that would be great. Just wondering if I can get away with using it.
Thanks,
Stoltzy

You can use any old style Auto flash with the 20D - just set the camera on manual with the desired sync speed and the aperture to match the Auto setting on your 383
-> The flash will then provide the correct exposure for the camera

The difference is the metering will be provided by the camera instead of the flash and Through The Lens (TTL). With the 550/580EX you also have the flexibility of setting the aperture to any value rather than the limited choice that is provided by the flash
